Residents may register dogs in person, Tuesday-Thursday, during normal business hours at the Town Clerk’s office located at 5 Church Street, Middlesex, Vermont 05602
All dogs over 6 months of age must be registered with the Town Clerk by April 1st each year, per state statute.
To register new dogs by mail:
- Register a new dog by mailing a current rabies certificate, along with the following application: Dog License Renewal Form
- Payments may be made by check (mail or drop box). You can also make a payment online (a fee 3% will be charged for credit cards, $ 1.50 per check)
- License and tag(s) will be mailed to you.
To renew your dog’s license:
- Renew by sending the fee and the current rabies certificate.

- License and tag(s) will be mailed to you.
Dog license renewals completed before April 1, 2026, cost $11 for a spayed or neutered dog and $15 for an unspayed or unneutered dog. Renewals completed after April 1, 2026, cost $13 and $19, respectively.
For dogs new to Middlesex, registrations filed between January 1 and September 30, 2026, cost $11 (spayed/neutered) or $15 (not spayed/neutered), and registrations filed between October 1 and December 31, 2026, cost $9 and $11, respectively.
A dog is considered new to Middlesex if it has been in town for 30 days or less, or has just reached the licensing age of six months.
Cats & Other Animals — There are no licensing requirements for cats or other animals. If you have an animal-related problem, call animal control at 802-878-1333
