Under Vermont’s Open Meeting Law (1 V.S.A. § 312(b)), each public body — the Select Board, the Planning Commission, and every other town board and committee — is responsible for its own meeting minutes. Minutes are taken by that body’s designated clerk or secretary (this is a different role from the elected Town Clerk); and they must be available to the public within five calendar days of the meeting, must be posted to the town website within those same five days, and must remain posted for at least one year. Minutes posted within the five-day window are drafts until the body formally approves them at a following meeting.
The Town Clerk’s office maintains this page as a public archive and keeps the official record copies at Town Hall. Questions about a particular body’s minutes are best directed to that board or committee; questions about this archive are welcome at the Town Clerk’s office.
